Doha: Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has called for de-escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Iran. In a recent interview with Sky News, Al Thani emphasized the importance of reducing tensions, stating, "We continue to seek de-escalation. They are our neighbours. It's our destiny."
According to Ghana News Agency, Al Thani expressed concern over Iran's recent actions, describing the attacks on Gulf countries as unexpected and unjustified. He criticized Tehran's rationale for the assaults, stating that the "justifications and pretexts they are using are completely rejected." The Qatari leader highlighted the severe impact of these actions, noting that "the miscalculation by the Iranians to attack Gulf countries has destroyed everything."
Al Thani further underlined the necessity of diplomacy as the solution to the crisis and urged the United States to partake in de-escalation efforts. The conflict has seen Iran launching attacks across the Middle East over the past week, which were reportedly in retaliation to US and Israeli military strikes inside Iran. These attacks have targeted US military installations as well as civilian sites, including airports and residential buildings.
Reports indicate that the strikes have affected approximately a dozen Arab nations, with Gulf states such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar experiencing a significant number of incidents.
