Accra: Ten persons engaged in illegal mining have lost their lives after a pit collapsed at Manso Tontokrom in the Ashanti Region, according to myjoyonline.com report.
According to Ghana Web, 30 other miners sustained severe injuries in the incident. An unspecified number of individuals are also believed to be trapped underground as emergency teams intensify rescue operations at the site.
The injured victims have been transported to the Hwidiem Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the cave-in, nor have they confirmed the total number of miners who were working at the site at the time of the incident.
Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
