Accra: Private legal practitioner, Kwesi Botchwey Junior, has filed Right to Information (RTI) requests at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), seeking details on several claims made by President John Dramani Mahama during the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA).
According to Ghana Web, Kwesi Botchwey shared details of his request in a Facebook post on Monday, March 2, 2026, stating that the petition submitted to the EOCO relates to the President's claim that the agency had recovered GHS600 million as of December 2025. In the State of the Nation Address, President Mahama mentioned that the EOCO had investigated 462 cases and recovered over GHS600 million by the end of 2025.
Botchwey's request specifically seeks details on the cases from which the reported amount was recovered, the individuals involved, and other pertinent information. The request includes demands for the nature of the cases, their case or suit numbers, dates of recoveries, and bank account details where the recovered funds were deposited.
Regarding the RTI filed with the Ghana Statistical Service, Botchwey explained that his request seeks a detailed breakdown of the jobs created, as well as information on the institutions responsible for generating the employment, in relation to claims made by President Mahama during his SONA in Parliament. The President had claimed that one million people gained employment between the first and third quarters of 2025, citing data from the Ghana Statistical Service. Botchwey's request demands details of jobs created in both the private and public sectors and the institutions involved in creating these jobs.
Meanwhile, the accuracy of the President's employment claim has been questioned, as it reportedly contradicts data published in the Quarterly Labour Force Survey by the Ghana Statistical Service.
