Accra: Mr. Isaac Andrew Tandoh, the Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, has proposed the establishment of Africa's largest convergent centre for dialogue in the minerals sector. Ghana, as the continent's leading gold producer and sixth globally, is poised to spearhead discussions on mineral commodities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Tandoh highlighted at the Local Content Summit 2026 that Ghana could leverage its mineral resources to accelerate economic growth, infrastructure development, and improve living standards. He emphasized the need for a strategic shift in how resources are exploited and managed by industry stakeholders.
The commission is actively seeking a suitable location to accommodate the numerous industry participants expected to attend the planned annual summit. Mr. Tandoh also underscored the importance of genuine local content development, urging Ghanaians to transition from merely supplying mining inputs to building comprehensive industrial capabilities that ensure sustainable value retention for national development.
Furthermore, he pointed out that local factories could generate substantial employment opportunities with supportive policies, financial accessibility, technical expertise, and strategic partnerships. He emphasized that true local content and indigenization involve local companies and citizens not only supplying goods and services but also progressively owning key industry segments.
