Accra: The Deputy Director for IT and Elections of the NDC, Rashid Tanko-Computer, has disclosed that the party identified the Electoral Commission and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as its principal adversaries during the 2024 general elections. Tanko-Computer's comments were made during an appearance on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, where he outlined the party's approach to the elections characterized by heightened vigilance.
According to Ghana Web, the NDC's strategy stemmed from a deep-seated distrust of the Electoral Commission's leadership. Tanko-Computer emphasized the need for the party to maintain a watchful eye on the electoral process to ensure fairness and transparency. He articulated the party's stance by stating, "We went into the election with two opponents. The first opponent was the Electoral Commission. The second opponent was NPP. That's how we won the election."
Reflecting on the 2020 elections, Tanko-Computer alleged that irregularities occurred, which underscored the necessity for the NDC's vigilance. He claimed that perceived independent-minded officials in 2020 ultimately failed to prevent alleged electoral malpractices, which were not addressed in court. "Otherwise, if we allow them, like how we thought there were people who were independent minded doing their work in 2020, they ended up rigging the election and ran away from being cross-examined in the courts. We all saw it," he asserted.
Tanko-Computer maintained that the NDC's role in scrutinizing the Electoral Commission is vital for safeguarding electoral integrity. He concluded that governors should be grateful to the NDC for holding the commission accountable, ensuring that proper procedures are followed.
