Dr Dzokoto Announces Bernard Ahiafor Excellence Award at Abor Senior High School

Abor: Dr Senanu Kwasi Djokoto, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has announced plans to institute an annual award scheme for the top three performing students in each year group at Abor Senior High School (ABORSCO). The award, to be known as the 'Bernard Ahiafor Excellence Award,' will recognise the best three students in Senior High School One, Two, and Three, with scholarships to be awarded to outstanding final-year students. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Djokoto made the announcement during the 60th Anniversary Celebration of Abor Senior High School, where he also donated GHS10,000 to support the school's anniversary activities. He said he drew inspiration from the school's anthem and its rich history of producing distinguished personalities, including academics, institutional heads, and national leaders. Dr Djokoto stated, 'Our forebears have done a great job. ABORSCO has produced professors, heads of institutions, and the celebrated First Deputy Spea ker of Parliament. Being someone who hails from this enclave, I want to associate myself with these accomplishments.' He encouraged students to believe in their potential, remain disciplined, and embrace delayed gratification as a pathway to success. He further advised, 'Each one of you has the potential to be great. The difference between those who succeed and those who do not often lies in discipline. If you chase instant gratification instead of focusing on your studies, success may elude you. Delayed gratification is always the better path.' Dr Djokoto expressed optimism that by the school's 75th anniversary, ABORSCO could be celebrating even greater achievements, including producing Presidents of the Republic and accomplished business leaders. He concluded, 'As long as God grants me life, I will continue to support this school in every way possible.' The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, endorsed the initiative and pledged his full support, p roposing the addition of a fourth category to honour the overall best female student each year, thereby expanding the scheme from three to four award categories. The introduction of the Excellence Award forms part of efforts to motivate students to strive for academic excellence and uphold the proud legacy of ABORSCO.
