Accra: The Government of Ghana has officially notified the Government of Togo of its decision to seek international arbitration concerning the maritime boundary between the two nations. This move is in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement from Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, highlighted that this decision follows eight years of unsuccessful negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement on the boundary. The statement emphasized Ghana's intent to prevent any escalation of incidents and to maintain peaceful relations between the two countries by promoting an amicable resolution through international arbitration.
