Accra: The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has called for the immediate reversal of the newly announced cocoa producer price of GHS2,587 per 64kg bag, insisting that the government must honour its campaign pledge to cocoa farmers.
According to Ghana Web, the group demanded in a statement issued on February 12, 2026, the implementation of what it described as a clear campaign promise of 'not less than GHS6,000 per 64kg bag.' It also called for urgent stakeholder engagement with cocoa farmers and their unions to address concerns arising from the price reduction.
The CDM argued that the decision reflects a troubling disconnect between government policy and the lived realities of rural Ghana. The statement highlighted that at a time when the cost of living is soaring and farm inputs are extremely expensive, the government's decision impoverishes farmers further instead of empowering them.
Describing the reduction as 'not merely an economic error but a moral failure and a political betrayal,' the group maintained that cocoa farmers deserve respect and economic dignity rather than what it termed broken promises. The CDM pledged to continue advocating for fair pricing and transparent policies within the cocoa sector.
