Danso: Clement Kofi Aidoo, a suspected robber, has been shot dead by police at Danso near Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region. A police brief on Wednesday detailed that the suspect, also known as Yaw, Paddy, and Joseph Abequaye, was shot after he attempted to attack officers with a cutlass during an operation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspect was transported to the Police Hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead upon arrival. This incident transpired after a petition was filed by Madam Christiana Frimpong, 77, to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, regarding a robbery at her Labone residence in Accra on January 30, 2026.
The petition, addressed to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters, urged an investigation into the attack. Madam Frimpong reported that on December 4, 2025, armed men invaded her home, bound her, covered her face with a plastic bag, and stole a Toyota Hilux pickup with registration number GW 9834-25, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other personal items.
After thorough investigations, a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) James Atampuri acted on intelligence and proceeded to Danso near Bawjiase at approximately 0130 hours on February 6, 2026. Upon the police's arrival, Aidoo allegedly attempted to flee through a window while wielding a cutlass, prompting the officers to shoot him.
The police recovered the stolen Toyota Hilux (GW 9834-25), several documents, and Madam Frimpong's mobile phone during the operation. They also found a Voter's ID card and a Police ID card bearing the name No. 48935 General Sergeant Daniel Kusi Appiah. These items have been retained as exhibits for the ongoing investigation.
Further developments led to the summoning of General Sergeant Daniel Kusi Appiah to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit at the CID Headquarters on February 6, 2026. He recounted that he met Aidoo in November 2025 through the KKN Domestic and Recruitment Agency while searching for a house help for his ailing father. Aidoo began working at his residence in Kaneshie on November 1, 2025.
Sergeant Appiah reported that on November 14, 2025, while aiding his father at the Ridge Hospital, Aidoo allegedly absconded with his Toyota Camry saloon car (GC 123-12), Police and Voter ID cards, GHS12,200 in cash, and other personal items. This incident was reported to the Kaneshie Police Station.
Investigations later identified Aidoo as a native of Bontroase in the Central Region, with his real name being Joseph Obessi, also known as Paddy. On January 25, 2026, Aidoo was reportedly seen with the stolen Toyota Camry in Bontroase. Following a police chase, he abandoned the vehicle at Kojoacquah Village and escaped. Police have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing.
