Techiman: A total of 120 young people in the Techiman Metropolis of the Bono East Region have graduated from a three-month employable skills training programme aimed at equipping them with job-ready skills to improve their socio-economic livelihoods. The beneficiaries, aged between 18 and 34, received training in software development, poultry hatching, and the cashew value chain.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Agrico-Hub, an entrepreneurship support organisation, facilitated the training with funding from Social Enterprise Ghana (SEG) and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC). This initiative is part of efforts to address the rising youth unemployment in the country. Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Techiman, Mr. George Boasiako-Antwi, Chief Executive Officer of Agrico-Hub, emphasized the organisation's commitment to providing employable skills training for young people.
Mr. Boasiako-Antwi highlighted that Agrico-Hub also offered access to markets and avenues for prospective applicants to secure loans through credit unions. He expressed hope that the beneficiaries would establish their own businesses with the skills acquired. Furthermore, he mentioned that SEG and WUSC were supporting the implementation of the government's 24-hour economy initiative.
Mrs. Rebecca Asantewaa Antwi of the Techiman Metropolitan Directorate of Agriculture urged the graduates to apply the knowledge gained to drive positive change in their communities. Mr. Fie Boakye, Assistant Director at the Techiman Metropolitan Assembly, commended the initiative, noting that it aligned with government programmes aimed at job creation. He encouraged the beneficiaries to be innovative in marketing their products, develop business plans, and maintain proper records.
