Ellembelle: Mr Ackah Watson, the Assembly Member for Awiebo and Ebi electoral area, has praised Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, and the District Assembly for their efforts in repairing a bridge over the River Ebi along the Teleku-Bokazo to Aiyinasi route. The repair of the bridge is said to have significantly enhanced connectivity in the area, subsequently boosting local economic activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Watson expressed his appreciation during a visit to inspect the repaired bridge and review ongoing construction work on a new concrete bridge intended to replace the old steel structure. The bridge, crucial for linking towns from Esiama to Teleku-Bokazo and onward to Aiyinasi, had been out of service for approximately four years. Its disrepair had negatively impacted the movement of goods and services, severely affecting the local economy and causing hardship for residents.
Mr Watson conveyed his gratitude to the MP and the District Chief Executive for implementing an interim solution to restore traffic flow in the area. He noted that Metropolitan Construction Limited is currently working on constructing a concrete bridge to permanently replace the steel bridge. Additionally, he mentioned that the entire road from Teleku-Bokazo to Aiyinasi has been contracted for asphalting, pending the completion of the new bridge.
Madam Faridatu Shafu, a local resident, shared that the bridge's breakdown had a detrimental impact on the community, particularly affecting traders and market women. She highlighted the difficulties faced by pregnant women and those in need of medical attention due to the lack of available transportation. The community expressed relief and happiness with the restoration of the bridge.
