Weta: Dr Sefakor Juliet Kpormegbe, the Medical Superintendent of Ketu North Municipal Hospital (KNMH), has made an urgent appeal for logistic support and infrastructure improvements to address critical challenges affecting healthcare delivery at the facility. Dr Kpormegbe highlighted the need for better road access, an official pickup vehicle, and increased human resources during the hospital's third medical and surgical outreach organized in collaboration with the West African College of Surgeons (WACS).
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Kpormegbe emphasized that the hospital is under-resourced and faces challenges such as deplorable road conditions and a lack of an official vehicle. She called for volunteers and partners to help maintain the hospital's equipment and adopt some of its wards. Despite these issues, she affirmed the hospital's commitment to providing quality healthcare to all patients without discrimination. Dr Kpormegbe expressed gratitude to individuals and stakeholders who support the hospital, noting that sustained support would lead to improved services for the community.
Dr Kpormegbe identified low attendance as a persistent issue, primarily due to the poor condition of the access road leading to the hospital. She explained that the bad road conditions and limited transportation options discourage patients from seeking care until their conditions become critical. Although patient attendance has increased from about 10 to 25 patients daily since she assumed office, the numbers remain low for a municipal hospital. She stressed that with better road conditions, the hospital could serve more than 100 patients daily and highlighted the importance of community outreach programs and periodic surgical interventions in reaching the community.
A Laboratory Technician at the hospital also spoke to the Ghana News Agency, corroborating the concerns about the Hadzi-Metrikasa road, which serves as the main access route to the hospital. He described the road's poor condition as a major factor contributing to low client turnout, especially during the rainy season. He appealed to the government and the Ketu North Municipal Assembly to urgently address the road issues to enhance transportation and healthcare delivery at KNMH.
