Effutu: The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Effutu Constituency of the Central Region has denied allegations that delegates were intimidated before, during, or after the party's presidential election held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the constituency leadership issued a statement on January 31, 2026, describing the claims as "false, unfounded and misleading." They rejected suggestions that the integrity of the primary was compromised, insisting that the process was peaceful and transparent.
The statement attributed the circulation of the allegations primarily to a former Constituency Chairman, Theophilus Kojo Halm. The Effutu NPP leadership characterized the claims as 'untrue, unfair, unfortunate and unnecessary,' arguing that they cast the constituency and the party in a negative light.
The statement further recalled that during the 2023 NPP presidential primary, Halm, who served as the chief campaigner for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the Effutu Constituency, similarly raised allegations of voter intimidation, which the party says were later proven to be untrue. It added that in the 2026 presidential primary, Halm openly campaigned for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the constituency and has once again raised claims of intimidation against his own side, claims the leadership insists are equally baseless.
The Effutu NPP leadership has therefore called on party members, supporters, and advocates of multiparty democracy to disregard what it described as alarmist allegations, stressing that no delegate was intimidated at any stage of the primary.
