Lusaka: President John Dramani Mahama is set to embark on a three-day state visit to the Republic of Zambia from February 4 to 6, 2026, following an invitation from his Zambian counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema.
According to Ghana Web, a press release from the Presidency Communications indicates that President Mahama will be accompanied by First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama. During the visit, he will hold bilateral talks with President Hichilema on issues of mutual interest, including strengthening diplomatic relations, enhancing trade and investment cooperation, and exploring collaborative opportunities within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The release also highlights that a significant component of the visit will be an address to the National Assembly of Zambia, where President Mahama is expected to present Ghana's vision for a more integrated and prosperous Africa.
President Mahama will also engage with members of the Ghanaian community in Lusaka, providing an opportunity to connect with compatriots residing and working in Zambia.
Additionally, the press release noted that the visit will include a Ghana-Zambia Business Dialogue, co-chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema. This forum is designed to offer a platform for Ghana to present its digital technologies and fintech services to Zambian businesses and government institutions, promoting economic partnerships and knowledge exchange.
According to the statement, the visit underscores President John Dramani Mahama's dedication to creating a seamlessly connected Africa through improved transport infrastructure, expanded trade linkages, and the free movement of people and goods. The president is a strong advocate for the accelerated implementation of the AfCFTA, which he believes is crucial for transforming African economies, generating sustainable employment opportunities for Africa's youth, and positioning the continent competitively in the global economy.
