Accra: The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has officially launched a 24-hour Premium and Express Service Centre, signifying a significant change in public-sector service provision and customer engagement. The move is aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and citizen-centered services in line with the government's Reset Agenda.
According to Ghana Web, during the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of SHC emphasized that the facility is designed to respect the time and needs of the Ghanaian people by significantly reducing waiting times and improving customer experience. The centre will operate round the clock, allowing clients to process documents, make payments, resolve tenancy issues, and receive timely assistance without unnecessary delays.
The Managing Director also revealed that upon taking office in early 2025, the management developed a medium-term strategic plan to enhance SHC's mandate beyond housing delivery. The plan includes providing high-level service and optimizing the use of assets for the benefit of the Government and people of Ghana.
As part of the strategic initiative, SHC aims to complete over 300 housing units by the end of 2026 across various regions. Plans are also in place to pilot urban redevelopment projects in Kaneshie, Kanda, Adenta, and Effiakuma estates in Takoradi, adding over 500 housing units in the short to medium term. Additionally, SHC is set to launch the Dedesua Housing Project in Kumasi, expected to deliver over 1,000 housing units along with essential infrastructure.
The Managing Director announced the successful renewal of headleases for five major SHC estates, marking only the second time in the company's history. Enforcement actions are also planned to reclaim SHC assets currently occupied without consent.
SHC is actively participating in several projects with the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, including the Greenville District Housing Scheme and the completion of abandoned affordable housing projects in Koforidua, Wa, and Tamale. These projects collectively aim to deliver over 2,000 housing units nationwide.
Further, SHC is undertaking the construction of seven regional headquarters buildings for the Ghana Immigration Service and residential apartments in Tamale and Takoradi. Discussions are ongoing with the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Prisons Service for similar projects.
The Managing Director highlighted the importance of aligning the 24-hour service centre with the government's Reset Agenda, which seeks to reform public institutions and restore public confidence. He stressed that service excellence is defined by the professionalism, empathy, and integrity of the staff rather than infrastructure alone.
In his concluding remarks, the Managing Director reiterated SHC's commitment to strengthening public trust in state institutions and supporting President John Dramani Mahama's vision of 'Building the Ghana We Want.' He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, the SHC Board, management, and staff for their unwavering support.
