Atebubu: The Atebubu College of Education branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the party to cherish and protect the prevailing unity and peace as it prepares for the Saturday, January 31 Presidential Primary. The delegates of the largest opposition NPP are set to go to the polls to elect the party's flagbearer for Election 2028.
According to Ghana News Agency, the decision will be made among the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former NPP General Secretary, and Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central. Mr. Francis Boakye Acheampong, the President of the TESCON branch, made the call in an interview on the sidelines of a general meeting of the Confederacy at Atebubu in the Bono East Region.
He urged the delegates, as well as the presidential hopefuls and their supporters, to remain decorous and tolerant as the presidential primary drew nearer, emphasizing that the NPP had always stood for democracy, rule of law, and unity. Mr. Acheampong advised against hate speech and bad utterances that could inflame passion and undermine the peaceful conduct of the elections.
He emphasized that differences in opinions are natural in a democratic contest, but violence, intimidation, and division must never be part of the political culture. Mr. Acheampong encouraged the presidential hopefuls and their supporters to graciously accept the outcome of the elections for the sake of party unity and the Election 2028.
He highlighted that the party's strength lies not in individual ambition but in the collective resolve to work together towards an overwhelming electoral victory in the 2028 General Elections. Mr. Acheampong also commended the National Executive Council of the NPP for constituting a vibrant elections committee and praised the committee for the hard and dedicated work in establishing the required structures for free, fair, and credible elections.
He concluded that the dedication and commitment to building strong internal democracy would strengthen the party and inspire confidence among its members.
