Accra: Chairman of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, commonly known as Joe Wise, has publicly endorsed former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko as a suitable candidate for the NPP chairmanship. Joe Wise emphasized Agyarko's firmness, discipline, and potential to restore unity within the party as crucial attributes needed for the role.
According to Ghana Web, Osei-Owusu highlighted the urgent need for addressing the growing indiscipline and weak enforcement of party rules, which he stated have been detrimental to the party's internal cohesion and national appeal. He expressed concerns over the NPP's potential decline if corrective measures are not implemented promptly.
Speaking during an interview on Asempa FM, Osei-Owusu underscored the importance of authoritative leadership at the national level to reverse the party's fortunes. He pointed out that the lack of discipline has led to misconduct among party members, causing internal divisions and defections to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Osei-Owusu noted that the NDC's increasing appeal is due to the firm leadership style of its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, also known as General Mosquito. He described Nketiah's consistency and uncompromising discipline as key factors in maintaining unity within the NDC.
He further observed that strict discipline and accountability are essential for creating order within a political party, thereby enhancing its attractiveness to both supporters and floating voters. Osei-Owusu advocated for a deliberate search for a capable leader who can unify the party, enforce discipline, and reposition it for future electoral success.
In this context, he expressed his full support for Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, citing Agyarko's experience, firmness, and respect within the party as valuable assets. Osei-Owusu declared his commitment to supporting Agyarko's leadership bid, believing in his ability to restore discipline and unify the party.
