Koforidua: The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has publicly challenged New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Dr Bryan Acheampong to substantiate claims that he was part of the 62 Members of Parliament who allegedly received financial support from Dr. Acheampong during the NPP's tenure in government.
According to Ghana Web, Okyere Baafi has asserted that he never received any financial aid from Dr. Acheampong and has stressed that his name should not be associated with these allegations. He has called for evidence to be presented and warned that, in the absence of proof, divine judgment would be the arbiter of the truth. Okyere Baafi declared, "I have dared Dr Bryan Acheampong and I will dare him again to show where he gave me money or included me among the 62 MPs who allegedly received funds. He should show me clearly. If he cannot prove it, then God will deal with all of us."
In a further development, during a radio interview, Okyere Baafi claimed he played a significant role in Dr. Acheampong's ministerial appointment under the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's administration. He affirmed, "He is my brother and I was a key influence in his becoming a minister."
Dr. Bryan Acheampong had previously stated during a campaign speech at Bunsu in the Eastern Region that he supported 62 NPP MPs with GHS20,000 monthly from 2021 until the party lost power in 2025. His aim, he disclosed, was to aid these MPs in their campaign activities and ensure they could visit their constituencies effectively. "At that time, I did not hold any position. But from 2021, I gave 62 Members of Parliament GHS20,000 each every month. I was supporting them so they could all visit their constituencies," he stated.
