Adaklu abuadi: Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, declared that the spirit of the Volta region has been revitalized, marking the return of its distinguished individuals to the country's frontline administration.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ibrahim made this statement during the commissioning of a state-of-the-art office complex for the Adaklu Traditional Council in Adaklu Abuadi.
The project, valued at GHS900,000, was funded by Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, using his share of the MP Common Fund. Additionally, Mr. Agbodza contributed approximately GHS600,000 from his own resources to furnish the Secretariat with necessary furniture and office equipment. The new facility includes offices, a conference room, a store, washrooms, and other essential amenities.
Mr. Ibrahim emphasized the importance of retaining Members of Parliament for extended periods, suggesting that this continuity is vital for ascending to higher levels of governance. He praised Mr. Agbodza as a career politician committed to impacting his constituency and the nation, rather than seeking financial gain. Mr. Agbodza's initiative to provide the Traditional Council with a suitable office reflects his understanding of the value of culture and traditional leadership.
The Minister highlighted the significance of the new office complex, stating that it symbolizes the soul of the people of Adaklu and expressed hope that it would be utilized effectively. He also mentioned President John Mahama's contributions to the Chieftaincy institution, including a 30 percent increase in allowances for paramount chiefs and an increase in traditional councils' quarterly allowances from GHS30,000 to GHS50,000. Legal counsel will also be attached to every traditional council, and staffing will occur pending financial clearance.
Mr. Ibrahim commended the Adaklu Traditional Area for maintaining peace, noting that it is one of the most tranquil regions in the country. He encouraged support for the President's 24-hour market agenda, describing it as a potential legacy. The event was attended by notable figures, including Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Jerry Yaw Ameko, Adaklu District Chief Executive, Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, President of the Adaklu Traditional Council and Paramount Chief of Adaklu, along with regional and constituency NDC executives and all chiefs from the Traditional Area.
