Accra: Passengers traveling from Dar es Salaam to Lagos and then to Accra will soon have a new option as Air Tanzania prepares to commence commercial flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA). The airline will begin operations on January 28, 2026, connecting these major cities and marking a new chapter in regional air travel.
According to Ghana Web, the announcement was made by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) in a recent post on their Facebook page. The company confirmed that all operational and regulatory arrangements have been successfully completed, setting the stage for Air Tanzania to begin its scheduled flights. The airline will operate three flights a week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Arrivals in Accra are slated for 5:00 PM, with departures scheduled an hour later at 6:00 PM.
The GACL expressed enthusiasm in their statement, highlighting the significance of Air Tanzania's entry as the 26th international airline operating from Kotoka International Airport. They emphasized their commitment to ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers and welcomed the new addition to Ghana's aviation sector.
The initiation of these flights follows the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority's (GCAA) issuance of a Validated Foreign Air Operator Certificate (VFAOC) to Air Tanzania in October 2025. This certificate authorizes foreign airlines to conduct commercial air transport within Ghanaian airspace, thereby facilitating the airline's new route between Dar es Salaam and Accra.
As Air Tanzania becomes the latest addition to Ghana's aviation landscape, the development underscores the ongoing expansion and diversification of air travel options in the region.
