Odomase: An elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, Mr. Yaw Dabie Appiah-Mensah, has cautioned delegates about the potential political consequences of not supporting former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming party elections scheduled for January 31. He emphasized that it would be politically inexpedient and suicidal to depart from the party's established trajectory.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Appiah-Mensah highlighted the importance of maintaining the NPP's precedent to ensure the party's success in the 2028 elections. He expressed concerns that deviating from this pattern could significantly reduce the party's chances of regaining political power.
The NPP is preparing for its internal elections to choose a flagbearer for the 2028 elections, with predictions favoring either Alhaji Dr. Bawumia or Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a business mogul and former Member of Parliament. Other contenders include Dr. Yaw Adutwum, former MP and Minister of Education; Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, former General Secretary of the party; and Dr. Bryan Acheampong, also a former MP.
In an interview conducted in the Sunyani West constituency of the Bono Region, Mr. Appiah-Mensah urged delegates to remain committed to the party's historical path by supporting Alhaji Dr. Bawumia. He warned that failure to do so would be detrimental to the party's future prospects.
Mr. Appiah-Mensah stressed the critical nature of this decision, noting that the party's success in the 2028 General Election hinges on adherence to its established trajectory. He also called on delegates to make informed decisions, asserting that Alhaji Dr. Bawumia's leadership would secure electoral victory for the NPP in 2028.
