Lagos: Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Nigerian music sensation Davido, has revealed how the family organized multiple DNA tests to address the paternity claims involving a 12-year-old girl named Anuoluwapo, who has been alleged to be Davido's daughter.
According to Ghana Web, the controversy began in mid-January when Anuoluwapo took to Instagram to claim that she had been the subject of bullying and ridicule due to accusations that Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, is her father. She expressed that the situation had taken a toll on her mental health and insisted that the singer undergo a DNA test to verify her paternity.
Adedeji Adeleke explained that before the issue was brought to their attention, social media personality Kemi Olunloyo had hinted that the child might actually be the daughter of B-Red, Davido's cousin. He stated, "Because B-Red's name is Adebayo, but his middle name is also David Adeleke, when the aunty of the little girl came, I said, 'Look, this is what we are going to do.'"
He further elaborated on the steps taken to resolve the matter, stating, "You go and pick your own clinic of your choice, come to Lagos, I will make sure it is available, bring the little girl, and we will go to your clinic and do the test. But I said before we do that, I am going to arrange for another clinic in Lekki apart from the one we went to before, so that David and the little girl will do two more tests, and then I will arrange two clinics for my nephew Bayo to do two tests. So the day you come, we are going to have four different tests. That's why you must have heard we've done five DNA tests."
Dr. Adeleke confirmed that three tests were conducted for Davido, while two were for B-Red. He recounted the family's first encounter with the child, tracing it back to a document he received in 2014. The package contained photos of the girl with Davido, her mother, and a birth certificate listing the father's full name as Adeleke David and the mother's as Adeleke Ayoomide.
Upon receiving a letter from Anu's grandmother, detailing her daughter's encounter with Davido and the subsequent pregnancy, Adeleke promptly contacted her to arrange DNA tests. He assured her that if the girl was indeed his granddaughter, she would be welcomed into the family.
The DNA test was conducted using saliva samples, which were sent to South Africa for analysis. Adeleke recounted the process: "When the day came, my driver brought the mother of the child, the baby, and the grandmother. We all met at the hospital. David, Lati, and I went up first, and the doctor explained the procedure to us. It was not done by blood but from saliva collected and sealed, then sent to South Africa for analysis."
Once the results were ready, both the grandmother and Adeleke signed to receive them together, marking the culmination of a complex and sensitive situation.
