Accra: The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to all flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct their campaigns with decorum, emphasizing the significance of unity within the party. Speaking at the Peace Pact signing event involving the five NPP presidential aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Afenyo-Markin highlighted that the future of the party and the nation hinges on upholding discipline and civility.
According to Ghana Web, Afenyo-Markin urged party members to rise above short-term emotions and prioritize the protection of the party that has empowered them. He stressed the importance of the peace pact, noting that it is not just about the outcome of the primary on January 31, but about ensuring the NPP remains strong, united, and credible in the eyes of Ghanaians beyond the primary.
He further elaborated on the strength of a united party, stating that whenever the NPP is united, it becomes formidable, whereas division leads to setbacks, affecting not just the party but also the nation. Afenyo-Markin warned against public confrontations, insults, and unsubstantiated allegations, encouraging aspirants to accept differing outcomes with humility and prioritize the national interest over personal ambitions.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized that internal divisions during primary contests extend beyond the party and can impact national governance. He cautioned that a fractured NPP not only risks losing elections but also threatens to undermine the progress that the nation is striving to achieve.
