Accra: Lower Paxton Township 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency, Valentino Nortey, has been arrested by a United States law enforcement agency following a domestic stabbing incident. The incident took place along Mayfair Drive in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
According to Ghana Web, the victim of the stabbing has been identified as Gilda Nortey, the wife of Valentino Nortey and a US-based nurse. Police reports indicate that Gilda was taken to the hospital by first responders and is currently in stable condition receiving treatment.
The family of Gilda Nortey has provided their account of the incident, calling for justice. David Gyapanin, Gilda's uncle, revealed in an interview with Citi News that the stabbing occurred after a minor misunderstanding between the couple. He stated that Valentino threatened his wife and subsequently stabbed her three times. Contrary to initial reports, Gyapanin claimed Gilda drove herself to the hospital after the attack.
Valentino Nortey faces multiple charges as per the Lower Paxton Township Police. He has been charged with attempted homicide, possessing an instrument of crime with the intent to use, and tampering with/fabricating physical evidence.
Nortey is currently detained in Dauphin County Prison after being denied bail by Judge David Judu. The preliminary hearing for his case is scheduled for January 26, 2026.
Valentino Nortey, who emerged as the NPP's parliamentary candidate after defeating two challengers in the party's primaries, lost the 2024 parliamentary election to Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Congress. He secured 23,716 votes, amounting to 37.5% of the total valid votes.
