Techiman: The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) recorded 48 disaster incidents in the Bono East Region in 2025, largely between the second and third quarters. The incidents comprised rainstorms, windstorms, bushfires, domestic fires, and conflicts. No cases were recorded in the first and fourth quarters of 2025, though two fire-related casualties were reported in the first week of 2026.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Akwesi Lampo, Bono East Regional Director of NADMO, stated that the disasters destroyed three farms and a school at Yeji in the Pru East District and razed two houses at Dagomba Line in the Techiman Metropolis. NADMO has intensified prevention efforts through the training and deployment of fire volunteer groups and public education via radio and community outreach. The organisation is also collaborating with chiefs and opinion leaders to enforce environmental protection bylaws.
Mr. Lampo highlighted that Atebubu-Amantin, Pru East and West, and Kintampo North and South are prone to high bushfire incidents, urging residents to safeguard lives and property. He mentioned that the relief items received have been insufficient to meet the growing needs and appealed for additional support.
The Regional Director advised farmers against cooking on farms and recommended seeking approval and assistance from fire volunteers before burning. He also cautioned Fulani herdsmen to stop burning bushes to regenerate pasture, describing the practice as dangerous.
