Ashanti Regional Minister Applauds ECG for Improved Power Supply in 2025

Kumasi: Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, has commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited for enhancing and maintaining power supply in the region. He acknowledged ECG's efforts in repairing electrical faults that had caused regular power outages since the beginning of 2025, thus ensuring a stable power supply. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Amoakohene addressed a delegation from the Ashanti Regional ECG during their courtesy call at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi. He highlighted two technical challenges that occurred at Anwomaso and Obuasi last year, which affected power supply. Collaborative efforts by ECG, GRIDCO, and other sector players resolved these issues, restoring power supply and benefiting residents and economic activities. Dr Amoakohene emphasized that maintaining consistent power supply supports the President's vision of uninterrupted electricity across the country. He noted a significant reduction in public complaints about power outages due to ECG' s improved performance. He also praised ECG's use of social media to communicate with customers, particularly through the ECG WhatsApp Channel, which he follows for updates. He encouraged the ECG management to continue providing information to customers to keep them informed. Mr Peter Kofi Fletcher, the General Manager for ECG, Ashanti Sub-transmission, mentioned ongoing projects in the region to ensure stable power supply, including constructing a sub-transmission line from Adoato to Barekese, slated for completion in 2026. This project aims to improve power supply from Adoato to Offinso, benefiting the Ghana Water Company by providing consistent power for water pumping to Greater Kumasi. Additional projects include constructing lines and substations at various locations, such as Anwomaso, Airport substation, Agogo, Nsuta, Kumawu, and other system improvements at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point. Mr Jonathan Adjabeng, General Manager for ECG, Ashanti South Region, advised Metropolitan, Municipal, and District A ssemblies (MMDAs) to appoint certified electricians for proper coordination and streetlight installation. Mr George Amoah, General Manager for ECG, Ashanti West Region, pledged the company's support in ensuring the government's streetlight project for all roads is successful.
