Kadjebi: The Kadjebi Traditional Area in the Oti Region is mourning the loss of its Paramount Queenmother, Nana Yaa Asiedua II, who passed away in December 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the news was shared during an interview in Kadjebi by Okyeame Asiedu Kwasi Akyea, the linguist to the Omanhene of the Kadjebi Traditional Area. Nana Yaa Asiedua II, a granddaughter of the first Paramount Queenmother, Nana Yaa Asiedua I, hailed from a royal lineage that significantly contributed to the area's growth and stability.
Okyeame Akyea highlighted that the late Queenmother was enstooled in 1976, serving her people for several decades. She played a crucial role in establishing the Association of Queenmothers in the then Volta Region, creating a unified platform for advocating social development and the welfare of women and children. Her involvement continued even after the creation of the Oti Region in 2018, ensuring the continuity and strengthening of queenmothers' roles.
Nana Yaa Asiedua II also served as the President of the Kadjebi District Queenmothers Association, focusing on women empowerment and girl-child education. She was respected as a peace-loving traditional leader, mediating conflicts within the area and promoting dialogue and consensus-building.
In addition, she encouraged women to engage in income-generating activities for economic independence. She held the position of Chairperson of the Oti Region Queenmothers' Association, further influencing regional development.
Regarding burial arrangements, Okyeame Akyea mentioned that the date for the final funeral rites would be announced during the observation of the 40th day customary rites, expected on Saturday, January 24. The traditional area will deeply miss her wisdom, leadership, and motherly care, with her legacy continuing to inspire future generations.
