Parliament Pays Tribute to Late MP Naser Toure Mahama

Accra: The Parliament of Ghana has paid tribute to the late Naser Toure Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, acknowledging his contributions to the House through his detailed committee work and policy scrutiny. According to Ghana News Agency, the late Mahama, who passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, was recognized as a diligent 'committee man' who served on several key committees, including Energy, Roads and Transportation, and the House Committee. Bernard Ahiafor, the First Deputy Speaker, highlighted these contributions at the funeral on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Reading a tribute on behalf of Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Ahiafor emphasized that the late MP's professional background in the oil and energy sector enhanced parliamentary oversight of petroleum regulation and licensing. He noted that Honourable Naser was known for his meticulous preparation and focus on value-for-money assessments during committee deliberatio ns. He frequently questioned whether government contracts served the best interests of taxpayers. Mr. Ahiafor added that the late MP's contributions on the Floor of Parliament were significant, primarily through formal parliamentary questions. These focused on issues such as drainage and flood control, health infrastructure, and hospital projects within the Ayawaso East Constituency.
