Agona fawomanye: The government has officially awarded the contract for the construction of the road stretch from Agona Fawomanye to Agona Asafo, passing through Kwesi Twi Krom, aiming to improve the transportation of goods and services and stimulate economic activities in the region. Mr. Samuel Oscar Mensah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona East, announced this development during a maiden homecoming event organized by the Chiefs and People of Mankrong-Junction, noting that the contractor is already on-site preparing for the commencement of construction work.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mensah also revealed that the road from Mankrong-Junction to Agona Duakwa has been awarded on contract, thanks to the persistent efforts of Mrs. Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyer, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East. Furthermore, the MP has been instrumental in advocating for the construction of the Agona Swedru to Akim Akroso road under the government's ''Big Push'' programme. This contract was initially awarded by the previous government but was stalled due to financial issues.
Mr. Mensah highlighted that the MP has also advocated for the development of the Agona Kwanyako/Akotsi-Junction Road to facilitate the movement of goods and services, thereby enhancing economic activities within the district. He assured the chiefs and residents of Mankrong-Junction that plans have been finalized for the construction of an ultra-modern community center spearheaded by the MP. Additionally, the Assembly has established a weighing center at Agona Mensakrom Polyclinic and upgraded the Agona Duotu Community Clinic with new equipment to improve healthcare services.
On the educational front, a new three-classroom block at Agona Nintah and a six-classroom block at Agona Mensakrom, along with other projects, are underway to improve teaching and learning facilities in the area. The MP has also advocated for the construction of dormitories at Agona Namawora Senior High School, with similar plans for Kwanyako Senior High School to increase student admissions.
The DCE addressed the recent water crisis triggered by galamsey activities, stating that it has been resolved through efforts by the MP in collaboration with security agencies. He also announced plans for a 24-Hour-Economy market at Mankrong-Junction to further boost local economic activities, with consultants already meeting with the Assembly and stakeholders to initiate the project.
Mr. Abraham Kojo Nkum, Assemblyman for Mankrong-Junction, stated that the homecoming event was aimed at raising funds for the rehabilitation of the town's school park. He encouraged Mankrong-Junction citizens to visit regularly and support local development projects. The community leaders and stakeholders are also lobbying for the construction of an astro turf to help nurture the talents of school children and youth.
