Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to step into the New Year with hope and a collective spirit of national unity, emphasizing that the country's advancement hinges on a shared sense of purpose.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama's New Year message, broadcast to the nation on Thursday night, highlighted the need for unity regardless of political affiliations. He reiterated that all citizens, irrespective of their voting choices or party support, are part of one Ghana. He stated that there is no separate Ghana for different political parties, emphasizing the unified identity and legacy left by the nation's forebears.
The President urged citizens to reject divisive politics and focus on patriotism and nation-building. He called for respectful disagreements and healthy competition in ideas without viewing political opponents as enemies. President Mahama pointed out that the challenges facing the nation are pressing, and the opportunities present are too valuable to be squandered on unnecessary conflicts.
He shared his vision for a Ghana where every child can aspire and achieve, where hard work is recognized, merit is valued over mediocrity, integrity is honored, and corruption is addressed. He envisioned a future where young people find ample opportunities within Ghana, eliminating the need to seek them abroad, and where senior citizens, the sick, and the vulnerable receive proper care and protection.
President Mahama expressed his aspiration for Ghana to earn global respect through its democracy, economic vitality, and the character of its people, positioning the country as a guiding light for Africa and the world. He assured that this vision is achievable and urged Ghanaians to move forward with confidence, determination, and faith-in God, in the nation, and in themselves.
As the nation embarks on the year 2026, the President encouraged building on existing foundations, working harder, dreaming bigger, and achieving greater goals. He concluded by affirming that the promise that inspired the nation's founding fathers remains a prophecy ready for fulfillment.
