Asaman tamfoe: Seven people are reportedly feared dead after a galamsey pit collapsed overnight at Asaman Tamfoe near Anyinam in the Eastern Region. Rescue efforts are currently underway as people at the site work to retrieve those trapped in the collapsed pit.
According to Ghana Web, a video shared by media personality Johnnie Hughes on X on August 30, 2026, showed the victims were allegedly engaged in illegal mining when the pit caved in, trapping them underground. The video accompanying the report depicted a heavy-duty excavator and several people trying to rescue one of the victims who was trapped under thick sand.
The rescuers were seen struggling to free the victim as they worked to remove the sand covering him. The situation has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of illegal mining in the region, highlighting the risks faced by those involved in such activities.
