Agormanya zongo: A 36-year-old woman has been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command in connection with the abduction of a nine-year-old girl from Agormanya Zongo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and an alleged attempt to traffic her to Kenya.
According to Ghana Web, the victim's father lodged a complaint on Sunday, April 19, 2026, upon realizing that his daughter, who had earlier left home, had not returned. Investigations by the Odumase-Krobo District Police, in collaboration with personnel from the BNI stationed at the Accra International Airport, led to the rescue of the child at the airport before she could be transported out of the country.
"36-year-old woman Regina Mamle Tawiah has been arrested by the Krobo Odumase District Police Command for allegedly stealing a 9-year-old girl, identified as Hawa Hamidu, at Agormanya Zongo in the Eastern Region. The suspect was apprehended at the Kotoka International Airport while attempting to travel with the child," according to a post by DEK360 on X.
The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court has since remanded her into police custody, with her next appearance scheduled for May 5, 2026, for a case management conference. The child has since been safely reunited with her father.
