Kumasi: A 39-year-old driver, Akwasi Tweneboa from Mmedoma in the Ashanti Region, is demanding GHS100,000 compensation from the family of his late boss, Don Tano, after he was asked to leave the house where he lived and served for 26 years.
According to Ghana Web, Akwasi stated he was only 13 years old when he began living with Don Tano, a Ghanaian based in Holland, until his death in November last year. Akwasi claims that the late Tano was unable to fulfill some promises made to him before his passing, and he believes it is unjust for the children to ask him to vacate the house without any form of compensation.
Akwasi explained that after his mother died in 2000, Don Tano, who frequently traveled between Holland and Ghana, invited him to live with him. 'I served him very well because there was no woman in the house and I was responsible for doing everything in the house,' he recounted. During his stay, Akwasi learned to drive and became Tano's personal driver.
Akwasi expressed his concern over a recent letter he received from the family, informing him of their decision for him to vacate the premises. He recalled a promise made by Tano to his father, assuring him that if Akwasi turned out to be a good person, Tano would buy him an Ovan vehicle to earn a living. 'We stayed together for a long time until he fell sick and passed away in November last year,' he said, adding that after the funeral in May, Tano's children issued a letter stating he should vacate the house by December 31, 2026, as they plan to renovate it for their use when visiting Ghana.
Kofi, who inherited the late Tano's property, mentioned during a program that he intends to engage with the deceased's children to find a way to compensate Akwasi for the years he dedicated to serving their father.
