Accra: The President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Seth Twum Akwaboah, has stated that the government's 24-hour economy policy has the potential to significantly transform Ghana's economy if effectively executed. Speaking on Joy News' PM Express, Akwaboah emphasized the importance of prioritizing implementation strategies over seeking quick results.
According to Ghana Web, Akwaboah advised against assessing the initiative solely based on its name, urging a focus on the specific policies and programs designed to achieve its goals. He expressed that what truly matters is the substance within the policies rather than the slogans they carry.
Akwaboah outlined that the success of the 24-hour economy policy will hinge on its design, stakeholder consultation, and effective execution. While there was initial uncertainty surrounding the concept, he acknowledged that discussions with the government have brought about greater clarity. "I think we are making good progress because now it's coming clearer. Government is defining," he noted.
He advocated for treating the initiative as a long-term vision, rather than expecting immediate outcomes, drawing a comparison with the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative. The AGI President welcomed the government's launch of a blueprint for the 24-hour economy, noting that it contains several ideas that could foster growth if properly implemented.
Akwaboah confirmed that the AGI is committed to collaborating with the government through the 24-hour economy secretariat to ensure the policy's success. "We are working with the 24-hour economy secretariat to implement some of the things they said they will implement," he emphasized, adding that successful implementation could have a major impact on Ghana's economy.
