Kumasi: Christian Owusu, a 22-year-old armed robber, has been sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour for robbery in the Ashanti Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service in Kumasi on Friday, August 14, 2026, reported that Owusu was convicted and sentenced in connection with a robbery incident that occurred on July 21, 2026. The victim informed the police that, at approximately 12:21hrs on that day, while she was on her way to Konkromase township in the Kwadaso Municipality, she was threatened and robbed of her handbag, which contained personal belongings and cash.
Subsequent police investigations led to the arrest of Christian Owusu on August 04, 2026. He was later brought before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 07, 2026, where he faced charges of robbery. The statement highlighted that Owusu pleaded guilty to the charge and was consequently convicted based on his own admission.
Before the sentence was announced, Christian Owusu made a plea for clemency to the court. The court considered his appeal but decided to sentence him to the minimum term of ten (10) years' imprisonment with hard labour. Following the sentencing, Owusu was transferred to the custody of the Kumasi Central Prisons authorities to begin serving his sentence.
