Accra: Residents of Awate in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region will benefit from a free community health outreach as part of the 2026 World Kidney Day Celebration scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2026. The event, themed 'Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,' aims to increase awareness about kidney disease, promote early detection, and encourage preventive healthcare practices within underserved communities.
According to Ghana Web, the outreach is organized in collaboration with Nephro Ghana, Firm Health Ghana Foundation, and GhanaWeb. It will run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at Awate, serving surrounding communities including Awate Todzi, Awate Agame, Awate Dzifadze, and Awate Tornu. Participants will receive free onsite medical screening services including blood urea and creatinine testing, blood glucose testing, and blood pressure checks. Healthcare professionals will provide education on kidney disease prevention, risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes, and practical lifestyle measures to support long-term kidney health.
Chronic kidney disease remains a growing public health concern in Ghana, often linked to unmanaged hypertension and diabetes. Early detection through routine screening significantly improves treatment outcomes and reduces complications.
