2026 World Cup Fundraising Initiative Deemed ‘National Movement’ by Parliamentary Committee

Accra: The Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports has endorsed the national fundraising initiative aimed at supporting Ghana's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing it as a 'national movement' that enables every Ghanaian to partake in a collective vision.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized during a press briefing in Parliament that the initiative transcends a mere campaign and represents an opportunity for all Ghanaians to be part of a historic journey. The initiative, launched by President John Dramani Mahama, targets raising $30 million to cover team preparation, logistics, and welfare.

President Mahama has officially unveiled this $30 million fundraising campaign to bolster the Black Stars' efforts in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mr. Norgbey called on corporate entities, the private sector, and individuals to contribute to the cause, highlighting that the financial burden should not rest solely on the government.

Mr. Norgbey, who is also an MP for Ashiaman under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasized that the success of the team aligns with national pride. He assured stakeholders of rigorous accountability and transparency in fund management, ensuring regular engagement and updates.

The fundraising drive is celebrated as a means to bolster national unity, inspire the youth, and enhance Ghana's international reputation.
