Why Yaw Dabo showed up Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

Yaw Dabo’s popularity and appeal have witnessed a dramatic rise following his interview with Spanish news outlet, Marca.

The owner and bankroller of Dabo Academy captured the attention of European soccer lovers, particularly Real Madrid with his succinct and expert views on their match against Manchester City on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Dabo’s surprise appearance at the Santiago Bernabeu was one of many instances in recent weeks where the ace actor has been spotted at famous football grounds.

Saddick Adams of Angel Broadcasting Network however explains that the initial plan for Yaw Dabo was to tour and establish network with figures at Spanish club, Osasuna.

Per the narrative of Sports Obama, as he is fondly called, Dabo decided to watch the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final encounter between Madrid and City because of his disdain for City.

He narrates that as a Manchester United fan, Dabo dislikes everything about Manchester City hence the decision to show up at the Bernabeu and support Madrid against City.

“He told me that the main reason he went there was to support Real Madrid. He is a staunch Manchester United supporter so he hates Manchester City. He’s a long-time United fan so if City happen to play a game at a location closer to him, he’d go and support their opponents,” he said on Angel TV.

Real Madrid and Manchester City drew 1-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie.

Brazilian forward Vinicius Jnr shot Madrid in the lead with a thunderous finish in the first half but Kevin De Bruyne restored parity with a sumptuous low drive in the second half.

‘Beef’ keeps the music industry alive – Lyrical Joe

Lyrical Joe, an award-winning Ghanaian rapper has posited that musical battles among artistes can be healthy for the industry, however, it attracts enemies to the parties involved.

Lyrical and other rappers have been involved in battles popularly known as ‘beefs’ in the local music industry. Although it came with the buzz, headlines and social media trends, the disadvantages cannot be overlooked.

“Sometimes it is good but it is not all the time that it’s good. Sometimes it keeps the rap conversations alive. It keeps the genre that you are doing, that conversation alive but at the end of the day, you take the damages as well,” Lyrical Joe told GhanaWeb’s Paula Amma Broni in an interview at the 24th edition of the Ghana Music Awards.

In May 2022, the country was entertained with back-to-back ‘diss tracks’ from Amerado and Lyrical Joe during their beef. Both parties gained attention and dominated showbiz conversations.

“You will end up making forever enemies and all that,” Lyrical Joe told GhanaWeb when asked about the disadvantages of rap battles.

Why American boxer Zab Judah pulled a gun on Joshua Clottey in a boxing gym

In August 2008, Ghanaian boxer Joshua Clottey defeated American boxer, Zab Judah at the Maddison Square Gardens in Las Vegas to win the IBF welterweight title.

The fight was intense and close as both boxers traded heavy punches and sometimes went outside the rules of the sport by activating some foul means as they both bid to win the bout.

Joshua Clottey has revealed the background story to the intense show of rivalry and animosity which was displayed in the fight.

Clottey narrates that the fight had been in the making for four years after he clashed with Zab Judah at a boxing gym.

According to him, Zab Judah lost his cool after he (Joshua Clottey) rejected an offer to spar with him but fight him instead.

“We were going to the gym when we met Zab Judah and his boys. Immediately he was me, he asked if I was interested in sparring and I asked why should I be sparring with him when I can fight him.

“He was multiple world champion then so when he said that I told him that I’d love to beat him. What I said triggered him and he started acting up. He even pulled a gun and I got scared. The people present at the gym separated but I wasn’t interested in any fight with him. My fight with him started building up four years before,” he said.

Clottey in the interview with Ernest Brew Smith on his Youtube channel also opened up on his fight with Manny Pacquiao.

He cited ace actor Majeed Michel as a witness to the incident and revealed some interesting background stories about the fight.

“I never said that I ate Banku and okro. Majeed Michel will confirm that I had a very bad running stomach. Whenever we had a fight, my girlfriend prepared Okro stew and banku because it helped in gaining weight after the weighing.

“Prior to that fight, a certain woman promised to prepare okro stew for me. She prepared the stew and gave it to me in the hotel. I had to shed a lot of weight after the weighing I decided to eat a lot of things to regain my weight. I had lost weight badly so I quickly needed a fix.

“Apparently you don’t have to take okro stew after you’ve taken a lot of sugary stuff but I didn’t know. I took it and it affected me but I didn’t tell anyone that it was due to the okro stew that I lost”, he said.

You cannot stop companies from flaring gas if there isn’t enough investment -ACEP

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Benjamin Boakye, has stated that companies in the oil and gas sector cannot be stopped from flaring gas if there is no commercial use for gas.

He added that Ghana needs more investments to unlock gas and plants to process and store excess gas.

He noted that until these conditions get better, companies will continue flaring gas.

“If there’s no commercial avenue to use gas, you cannot compel them not to flare gas for operational reasons. If there are no commercial applications for the market, they have to flare the gas. We need investment to unlock the gas, once you produce it, you need to process it. We don’t have enough capacity to construct another processing plant. We will need to build a new site to store the additional gas from TEN and Jubilee Fields.

“…Once we have the capacity challenge, then we need to flare. That is why we are where we are, we are flaring the gas, and we are looking for liquid fuel,” he was quoted by citinewsroom.com.

Ben Boakye called on the government to diversify fuel sources by implementing policies that allow for the establishment of processing plants in order to get excess gas for other purposes.

“I always say we are getting the policy action wrong, that is why we are where we are. If we have ENI producing in a more constant way, you could discuss with investors to help you pump in more gas by setting up a new processing plant. We have to think politically along the value change…we haven’t done the policy right,” he suggested.

The 2022 Annual Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC) Report on Management and Use of Petroleum Revenue has revealed that a total of 25.3 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas worth about $169 million was lost in the upstream petroleum sector through flaring.

The volume of gas flared in 2022 increased by 19.3 per cent compared to a volume of 21.2 bcf recorded in 2021.

This constituted about 10 per cent of the total 253.56 bcf of both Associated Gas (AG) and Non-Associated Gas (NAG) produced from the three oil fields of Jubilee, Sankofa Gye-Nyame (SGN), and Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme (TEN).

Six women to contest in NDC parliamentary primary in Oti Region

There are six women among the 31 aspiring parliamentary candidates to contest the parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the nine constituencies of the Oti Region (on Saturday.)

The six women are Madam Helen Adwoa Ntoso, incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi West, Madam Magdalene Ndemele and Madam Esther Asetena Mensah all in the Krachi West Constituency.

The others are Jean Marie Formadi and Madam Alberta Atakora in the Biakoye Constituency and Madam Rita Ama Narlyn Wurapa for the Guan Constituency.

Mr Joseph Asekere, the Regional Election Director, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said all was set for the primaries to be held on Saturday.

He called on the candidates to conduct a clean campaign that would unite the party for victory in 2024.

The NDC had an ambition of winning the 2024 election but before it pulled the breaks on the New Patriotic Party’s eight-year reign, it needed to do extra work, Mr Asekere said.

He explained that paving the way for more women in the civic arena was an investment for a just, equitable and peaceful society, he said.

Women had a right to engage in civil society, vote in elections, be elected to government offices, serve on boards and make their voices heard.

‘The right to political participation is a necessary step to achieving global gender equality and democratic governance,’ he said.

The Regional Director of Elections said about 8,977 delegates are expected from 961 polling stations to vote in the party’s parliamentary and presidential primaries, which would be held on May 13, 2023.

The delegates comprise nine executives each from all the 961 polling stations and constituency and regional executives in the nine constituencies in the region.

The delegates will converge at a particular centre in each of the constituency to cast their ballots and elect a preferred parliamentary candidate as well as a flagbearer to lead the party in the 2024 general election.

He told GNA that all the aspirants were being engaged in the election process and was hopeful that they would have transparency and smooth elections.

He urged media practitioners to secure their accreditation from the various district directors of election before the event at the weekend.
