Pank Talented School’s Sarah Danso is 2022 Ga-Central Best Caregiver

Accra, Oct.31, GNA – The Ga Central Day Care Centre Association has adjudged Ms Sarah Serwaa Danso, a Caregiver at the Pank Talented Kids School, as the 2022 Most Outstanding Caregiver at its Maiden Best Caregivers Awards programme.

Ms Danso at the celebration on the theme: “Making Childcare Visible, Valued and Supported,” was rewarded with a plaque, medal, LD television set and a hamper, after participating in a keen contest.

Ms Anita Harrison of the Knowledge Hill School emerged the second with a medal, an LD television set, and a hamper, while Mrs Gifty Abroquah of the Future Diplomatic Montessori School was awarded a microwave oven, a medal and a hamper as the third awardee.

Ms Charity Tetteh of the Eagle of Greatness Montessori School took the fourth position, followed by Ms Charity Asabea Larbi of the United Baylor Academy.

The awardees as part of the contest, taught attendees about plants, their uses and their parts as they taught children in their schools, answered questions from Judges about their roles in the classroom and engaged in a dancing competition.

Mrs Felicia Adamah, President of the Association, said as part of measures to improve the standard of caregiving in the municipality, capacity-building workshops had been organised for 700 caregivers and school owners/Head teachers within 150 schools.

The Association was, however, facing mobility challenges that hindered the progress of the exercise, and appealed to the government through the Member of Parliament for Anyaa/Sowutuom to go to their aid with a vehicle.

She appealed to the government to re-start the supply of foodstuff to the Day Care Centres programme which had been stopped for years now, explaining that it boosted the nutritional value of the children.

Reverend Mrs Juliet Wiafe-Adjei, President, of the Day Care Association, Greater Accra Region, said the day was special to acknowledge the great things caregivers did to support kids at Day Care centres.

“Acknowledging caregivers and raising their standards is key to making them confident wherever they stand because what they do is great and commendable. The children entrusted into their hands are small but great since the spirit in them is as old as God. So whatever we do to them, we are doing it to God,” she said.

Childcare years ago, she said, was the preserve of parents, a situation that impeded their lives, making it impossible for them to attend to their jobs and other businesses.

“As a result, some lost their jobs caring for children, while others decided not to give birth. In the 1950s, parents decided to entrust their children to the care of responsible caregivers.

Today, it is not just taking care of the children, but giving them training and enabling parents to attend to their other businesses,” she explained.

Mrs Wiafe-Adjei said it was, therefore, wrong mentality for one to say: “This child is little and young, so his or her fees should also be very little when they need special attention.”

Advising caregivers, she said: “You also have an assignment. It’s over when you were saying, ‘These ones can’t learn because they are too young, so let me feed them for them to sleep,” adding that they should teach them by leading exemplary lives in their utterances, how they lied down, washed their hands, and related to others.

“As caregivers, you must polish your language. Some caregivers have poor tenses. And that doesn’t impact well on the kids. You are the children’s reflection so whatever you do is what your children gather. You should rewind, reset and do better job to the glory of God,” she added.

Madam Joana Awortwi, Director in Charge of Day Care, Department of Social Welfare, commended the Association for recognising caregivers who nurtured children and brought out the potential in them.

She advised the caregivers to be mindful that they had become brand ambassadors, obliged to exhibit high level of professionalism.

The formative years of a child, she said was crucial and needed more trained caregivers to create response system such as respect for the child and good nurturing abilities to make better impacts on the child.

The Association, with 12 zones focuses on all matters affecting Day Care centres and fosters unity among them and all Proprietors in the municipality and beyond.

It promotes the welfare of every Day Care member with laid down standard educational support.

Don’t shy away from NDC ideals – Alhaji Ali Futa

Candidates vying for positions at the regional and national level elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been told to uphold the party’s ideals in their campaign activities.

They should set good standards by telling the party activists of their capabilities and vision when given the mandate, and not engage in unnecessary ‘dirty politics’, Alhaji Sumaila Ali Futa, an Executive Member of the NDC Zongo Caucus said.

“Those billed to lead the party have the responsibility of conducting their campaigns decently – devoid of insults and derogatory remarks,” he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Accra.

Alhaji Ali Futa said the difficult socio-economic trends in the country suggested that the NDC was the only alternative party with the proven records to salvage Ghana from its current predicament.

“The people are yearning for our comeback, because they can no longer endure the high utility bills, food prices, fuel cost and depreciation of the Ghana Cedi,” he argued.

According to him, politics was about addressing the needs of the people.

Therefore, the leadership and well-meaning activists of the NDC were obliged to echo the party’s position and vision pertaining to the management of the economy and national resources when given the platform.

Alhaji Ali Futa, who is currently the Ashanti Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator, and also vying for another term, appealed to the delegates to justify their confidence in him by voting massively when the party regional elections are due.

“My simple message to the voters is that the NDC needs hardworking, dedicated and committed executives at the regional level to be able to efficiently execute the party’s overall agenda at the national stage,” he noted.

He congratulated the newly-elected constituency executives, urging them to work with the losing candidates to foster peace, unity and harmony in the party.

Farouk Aliu Mahama urges TESCON members to remain loyal to NPP

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Yendi has urged the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), of the party to remain determined and resolute in working in the interest of the party.

He also implored them to at all-time stick to the founding principles of TESCON, which had become the intellectual organ and the number one breeding ground for future leaders of the party and the nation at large.

Alhaji Mahama made the emphasis when he addressed members of Greater Accra Regional TESCON Boot Camp at the University of Ghana Business School in Accra.

He reminded them of the fact that young people represented the life and soul of the NPP political tradition, and urged them to remain instrumental in promoting the ideas and ideals of the NPP tradition, which his late father lived and died for.

Alhaji Mahama who is also the Board Chairman of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) tasked the TESCON members to sell the good works of the NPP Government, which had demonstrated a strong commitment to tackling the challenges confronting the nation’s youth through various interventions and policy frameworks.

He said: “As youth of the NPP, we may have a tougher responsibility, but breaking the eight (8) is a MUST DO for us. We must convince Ghanaians that changing a productive regime merely because they have lasted for eight years is not healthy for a country that seeks progress.

“We must prove beyond any reasonable doubt to Ghanaians why the party must not go after its two-term regime cycle. Beyond singing the chorus of ‘Breaking the Eighth’, we must critically engage our minds forthwith”.

The Yendi legislator also made a donation of Ghc10, 000 to support the programmes and activities of the Greater Accra TESCON and pledged to support the National TESCON when the need arises.

Mrs Francisca Oteng, a Deputy Minister Designate for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection advised members of the confederacy to remain loyal and continue to work hard for the party’s success in the 2024 election to break the eight.

Mr Sammy Awuku, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority eulogised the late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama and made comments about the good works of him and how that has transformed to his son Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, which made him MP for Yendi.

He charged the TESCON Members to be good ambassadors of the party by propagating the good work of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led administration and also defend the NPP whenever a lie is told on the party.

I have always insisted Akufo-Addo is empty – Asiedu Nketiah

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, has said he has always had the notion that President Akufo-Addo is empty ever since he, Asiedu Nketia, was a member of parliament.

According to him, due to Akufo-Addo’s arrogance, he failed to learn from former President John Dramani Mahama’s address which had solutions and proposals.

In a Facebook post, he indicated that President Akufo-Addo’s address on Ghana’s economy on October 30 was “nothing beyond the smoke”.

“I have always insisted that President Nana Akufo-Addo is empty. I formed this opinion many years ago as an NDC Parliamentarian. He was representing the NPP in Parliament. Listen critically to him, and you will know he is full of smoke. Nothing beyond the smoke.

“President Mahama set the right tone in his brilliant address with solutions and proposals at the UPSA for Akufo-Addo to learn from. But arrogance and lack of capacity deprived him of the opportunity to drink from his predecessor’s fountain of wisdom,” he said.

He urged Ghanaians to join the NDC to vote against the NPP in 2024.

“But there’s hope! We have elections 2024 to win to rescue Ghana from this incompetent and clueless NPP government that is determined to use foul means, including violence, to steal the outcome of the elections,” he stated on Facebook.

Ellembelle NPP calls on Akufo-Addo to sack Ben Asante as Ghana Gas CEO

The polling station executives and communicators for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region have called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack Dr. Ben Asante as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Ghana National Gas Company Limited with an immediate effect.

The angry Ellembelle NPP members embarked on a demonstration on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Atuabo, where the Chiefs and people of the area gathered to climax their 2022 Kundum annual festival.

Speaking to the constituent newsmen, a member of the Ellembelle NPP Communications Department, Yannick Akrowie, stated that Dr. Ben Asante has been denying the party members in the area opportunities to work in the company.

He claimed Dr. Ben Asante does not respect the Ellembelle NPP Constituency Executives.

He also disapproved of a claim by Dr. Ben Asante of giving 47 tertiary students to do their industrial attachment in the company.

“Everything you (Dr. Ben Asante) have written here is false, but I would want to tackle point two. In your point number 2, you claimed to have taken 47 students on industrial attachment this year. In this 47, Ellembelle had zero. You deliberately ignored the 15 people the Ellembelle Constituency Executives presented to you for a common industrial attachment,” he fired.

He added, “Total insult on the party in Ellembelle. You (Dr. Ben Asante) have no respect for the party. How on earth would you ignore the list of the very party executives who worked tirelessly so that the party retained power and secured you your job as a CEO? Schools are already open for the 1st semester, so your claim that more have been approved and waiting to be called is another lie.”

Angry Yannick Akrowie emphasized that Dr. Ben Asante does not deserve to continue to stay in office as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company (GNPC).

“This is exactly why Ben Asante MUST GO. He has no respect for the party and the Executives in Ellembelle and, therefore, would not do anything to help the moving forward of our cherished party in the Constituency,” he called.

Other party members who spoke to the media called on President Akufo-Addo to sack Dr. Ben Asante immediately as the Ghana Gas Company CEO.

They claimed that in the 2020 parliamentary elections, where the NPP failed to win the seat, Dr. Ben Asante gave money to some people in Ellembelle Constituency to campaign against their Parliamentary Candidate, Kwasi Bonzoh.

“Dr. Ben Asante does not deserve to be Ghana Gas Company CEO; he gave money to Stephen Donkor and Samuel Erzoah, who are workers at Ghana Gas Company, in 2020 to campaign against our Parliamentary Candidate, Kwasi Bonzoh to lose; they preached skirt and blouse voting against our candidate”, they stated.

They emphasized that if Dr. Ben Asante continues in office as Ghana National Gas Company CEO, the NPP will lose the 2024 Parliamentary elections.

“President Akufo-Addo should listen to our call and sack Dr. Ben Asante, Stephen Donkor, and Samuel Erzoah from Ghana Gas Company because if they continue to work there, they will get money to sponsor some NPP members to preach skirt and blouse voting against our 2024 Parliamentary Candidate as they did in 2020 against Kwasi Bonzoh,” they said.

They promised to continue to protest until Dr. Ben Asante was removed from Ghana National Gas Company.

“Dr. Ben Asante is using his position to destroy Ellembelle NPP; he does not care to employ us, he is not supporting the Ellembelle NPP, and we will continue to protest until he is sacked; Ben Asante must go; we don’t need him at Ghana Gas Company,” they assured.

Moreover, two NPP members in Ellembelle Constituency have been arrested by the Ellembelle District Police Command over the demonstration.

Be worthy ambassadors of the NPP and government – Prince Sadat urges TESCON

The administrator of the NPP National Youth Wing, Prince Amadu Anuwar-Sadat has urged TESCON executives and members across the country to be worthy ambassadors of the New Patriotic Party and Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led government. He shared his thoughts at the maiden BOOT CAMP organized by the Greater Accra Regional TESCON Secretariat at the University of Ghana, Legon which was further shared on his Facebook wall.

“As Administrator of the NPP National Youth Wing, I joined a pool of party leaders and government appointees to address and train TESCON Executives at the maiden BOOT CAMP organized by the Greater Accra Regional TESCON Secretariat at the University of Ghana, Legon. The 2-Day event saw resourced persons take TESCON Executives through a series of training and mentorship sessions.

“We underscored the need for the Youth, especially TESCON Executives and members to be worthy ambassadors of the party and government. We urged them to tell the elephant story positively and not allow the NDC to spread falsehood about the government, especially on the current economic hardship caused largely by external factors.

“Indeed, the NDC underperformed in government when there was no Global Pandemic, No digitalization of the economy, no 10,875 kilometres of roads constructed, no Free SHS, no 1D1F, no 305 Ambulances, no Free Water, no Free Electricity, no allowance for trainees, no TVET, no free PPE’s, no Free Food for Vulnerable Ghanaians, workers did not stay home for some months without work but pay, no Railway Projects, no Agenda 111, no 1V1D, no recruitment in the public sector, no NBSSI funds for businesses, 80 warehouses, 100 Greenhouses, 429 new CHPS compounds, no ‘Dumsor’, no Nursing and Teacher Training allowances and therefore should not be allowed the failed NDC government to dictate the pace.

“The theme for the Boot Camp, “A Resourced TESCON: a Major Factor in Breaking the 8” couldn’t have been chosen at any better time. It is in line with the vision of the National Youth Leader, Commander Salam Mustapha. We will reposition and reorganise TESCON to reflect the changing landscape of our body politics, and reform it to mirror the true character of the NPP, of grit and service to the party and humanity.

“I also used the opportunity to commend the Greater Accra Regional TESCON Secretariat led by Mr. Kojo Baffour Gyamfi a.k.a Polo (who by far is my best regional TESCON Coordinator thus far) for this great initiative. I further encouraged other regional TESCON Coordinators across the country to come up with similar programmes to energize the base of the party on the student front. I am confident that with the right strategies, under the leadership of Mr. Eric Asonade Ofosu (National TESCON Coordinator), TESCON will work again.”

Sec. Hillary Clinton, Canada’s Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland, Oprah Winfrey, Malala, Christine Lagarde, Michelle Obama & Global Women Leaders from Over 14 Countries Sign an Open Letter Calling for UN Action Against Iran

The Open Letter, Published in Sunday’s New York Times, Calls for the Immediate Expulsion of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 30, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The world’s preeminent women leaders in business, politics, advocacy and the arts published an open letter in Sunday’s New York Times calling for the immediate removal of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

Signatories of the letter include Sec. Hillary Clinton, Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland, Media Leader & Philanthropist Oprah Winfrey, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate & Education Activist Malala Yousafzai, Economic & Political Leader Christine Lagarde, former First Lady of the United States & Advocate of Girls Education Michelle Obama, former Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former head of UN Climate Change Convention Christiana Figueres DBE, former First Lady of the United States & Education Advocate Laura Bush, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate & Human Rights Activist Nadia Murad and women in leadership positions from 14 countries (and counting).

This global effort—a partnership between Vital Voices, For Freedoms and a coalition of Iranian women leaders—comes amid more than 40 days of worldwide protests launched and led by Iranian women and girls after the tragic death of 22-year-old Mahsa Jina Amini. The protestors are demanding justice after Amini died on September 16, 2022 while in police custody. Amini was arrested by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s “morality police” for allegedly not complying with mandatory hijab laws.

Reports of extreme punishments and harsh crackdowns against protestors by Iranian authorities have flooded international headlines and social media feeds in the weeks since Amini’s death, gaining worldwide attention and scrutiny.

The group of women leaders who signed on to the letter came together in solidarity with Iranian women and girls with a clear call to action: the immediate removal of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women.

Within the first few days of going live, the letter received more than 21,000 signatures and growing. Additionally, more than 130,000 petitioners have also signed a letter asking for the same outcome on Change.org.

The open letter states: “We condemn the brutal violence of security forces against peaceful protesters … Earlier this year, to the dismay of women’s rights advocates around the world, Iran began a four–year term on the UN’s 45–member Commission on the Status of Women. This preeminent global body is exclusively dedicated to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s long–standing, systematic oppression of women should have disqualified them from election to the CSW.”

The letter also laments the Islamic Republic of Iran’s record on women’s rights, citing gender inequality and legalized discrimination against women regarding marriage, divorce, inheritance, child custody cases and attire. These restrictions include the mandate that requires women to wear head coverings at the onset of puberty.

The signatories of the letter warn that the violence and loss of life will continue without global intervention at the highest levels, and that the Commission on the Status of Women will lose credibility each day the Islamic Republic of Iran remains a member.

“This is a critical moment for leaders in the international community to vocally and unequivocally demonstrate their support for women’s rights by standing in solidarity with Iranian women and girls,” states the letter.

Members of the public are invited to read the full letter here. To join the movement, sign on here.

Accra, Oct 30, GNA – Ghana will on Tuesday, November 1, assume the Presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, which is a historic moment in the country’s two-year tenure at the Security Council.

The UN Security Council is the principal organ for the maintenance and furtherance of international peace and security.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in a media release, copied to the Ghana News Agency, outlined some programmes of activities in November towards Ghana’s Presidency of the UN Security.

It said on Tuesday, there would be a press briefing by Mr Harold Agyeman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations in New York, to the UN Press Agencies at 1630 hours.

On the same day at 1900 hours, Mr Agyeman would also brief the Wider UN Membership on the

2 / 3 Programme of Work and Ghana’s priorities during the month.
