Ellembelle: 100 residents have officially been deployed as Community Sanitation Workers in the Ellembelle District, Western Region. This initiative, spearheaded by the District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, Joseph Agyekum, in collaboration with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, aims to enhance sanitation management and improve waste collection in the district's high-commercial areas.
According to Ghana Web, the workers, recruited from within the district, were formally introduced on Wednesday, August 4, 2026. This move is part of the Assembly's commitment to fulfilling President Mahama's sanitation agenda, as outlined by DCE Joseph Agyekum. He emphasized the importance of supporting these workers and urged residents to contribute to maintaining cleanliness as a shared responsibility.
In addition to addressing sanitation issues, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah highlighted the employment benefits for the youth. He assured that the government would provide necessary logistics and funding to ensure the program's sustainability. The Assembly plans to monitor the workers' performance monthly and equip them with essential tools and stipends.
The newly employed workers expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity. They acknowledged the job's potential to improve their livelihoods and the community's cleanliness. Residents and community members welcomed the initiative, recognizing its potential to enhance business and public health in the district.
The sanitation workers are set to begin operations immediately, focusing on markets, lorry stations, and major streets. They will be under the supervision of the District's Environmental Health Officers, with a strong appeal to the community to support and cooperate with the initiative.
