NPP Patriotic Gents supports Remar Tema Children’s Home

Tema,- The Tema Central Chapter of Patriotic Gents, a Volunteer Group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has donated assorted items to the Remar Tema Children’s Home in Community Eleven.

The items included: bags of rice, cooking oil, toiletries, clothing, pairs of shoes, confectioneries, breakfast items, bags of water among others at a cost of over GH¢8,000.00.

The group also donated an undisclosed amount of money for the upkeep

p of inmates and their caregivers.

Mr Stephen Nartey Adamtey, Public Relations Officer, NPP Patriotic Gents, Tema Central Constituency, who made the presentation, flanked by some executives of the group, said it had realised the remarkable support the children’s home was giving to the underprivileged children across the Tema Metropolis and the country as a whole.

He said the phenomenon of street beggars in the country was worrying and fast becoming a social concern, and thus applauded the home for their continuous efforts at ridding the country’s streets of children who otherwise would have still been begging on the streets and endangering their lives.

He said the dreams and aspirations of the rescued children would now be achieved because of the new lease of life the children’s home continues to offer them, and appealed to other philanthropic individuals and organizations to support the home.

Mr Adamtey called on the government, through the Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to strengthen policies and have well-coordinated strategies targeted at providing adequate support for less privileged children to improve their lives.

According to Mr Adamtey, Patriotic Gents was a volunteer group that sought to, among other objectives, unify the NPP and coordinate the efforts of the government in delivering on its policies and programmes.

Mr Philip Dartey, Director of the Remar Tema Children’s Home, said the home is part of Remar Ghana Christian Rehabilitation Centre and Children’s Home with branches in eight regions of the county focused on supporting and rehabilitating marginalized and less fortunate children some of whom have taken to drug and alcohol use.

He said the Tema home housed 24 boys and eight caretakers, adding that the purpose of establishing the home was to give new life to underprivileged children including the provision of free education, health care, and also to transform inmates spiritually in the Christian way.

“We are a charity and so we rely on donations from individuals, corporate bodies, organisations to help support the needs and upkeep of these kids,” he said and appealed for more support to enable them to extend help to other children who are in need.

Mr Dartey said in terms of rehabilitation, the Remar Ghana had two rehabilitation centres at Nsawam in the Eastern Region and Kumasi in the Ashanti Region providing support to drug and alcohol addicts and rescued commercial sex workers.
