Nadowli-Kaleo NCCE engages identifiable groups on 2021 Constitution Week

Wa, (UW/R), – The Nadowli-Kaleo District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has sensitised women groups and trades associations on the tenets of the 1992 Constitution as part of activities to mark the 2021 Constitution Week.

The weeklong celebration aimed at instilling the principles and objectives of the 1992 Constitution into the citizenry to deepen and sustain Ghana’s democracy.

The week’s celebration was on the theme: “We are One, Ghana First.”

Mr Emmanuel Der Tambile, the Nadowli/Kaleo NCCE Director, who led the sensitisation exercise, explained some past events that led to the enactment of the 1992 Constitution.

He said the NCCE instituted the Constitution Week in 2001 and observed annually from the 28th of April to the 4th of May to educate the public on constitutional issues such as the civic responsibilities of the citizen and constitutionalism.

He entreated participants to uphold the tenets of the 1992 Constitution and other related issues to help build on the country’s democratic gains chalked over the past 28 years.

He urged participants to demonstrate respect for rule of law, foster peace, unity, and harmony, protect and preserve the fundamental human rights of others.

Copies of the 1992 Constitution were distributed to the public to emphasise the relevance of the Constitution as a living document that guided every facet of Ghanaian lives.

Mr Tambile said it was important for citizens to continually adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols, disregard the myths about the vaccines, and get vaccinated.

The beneficiary groups were the Naro Shea Processing Women group, Serekperi Women group, Gbankor Women group, Dah Women group, Nadowli Weavers Association, and Nadowli Dressmakers Association.

In all, a total of 521 participants, comprising 77 males and 444 females, took part in the 2021 Constitution Week celebration.
