Let’s cater for the needy, vulnerable as our children-Catholic Priest

Accra, Sept.19, GNA – The Reverend Father Dionisio Nellas, SVD, Resident Priest of the St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, Abeka, has appealed to Christians to cater for the poor, needy and vulnerable in the community as they will to their children.

He said to be a good servant of God, Christians had to take good care of their children and provide basic necessities for them.

Fr. Nellas defined ‘children’ as those that were hungry and roaming the streets without hope, members of the congregation in the Church that needed support, and those in societies that could barely provide a single main meal for themselves and their families on a day etc.

Making reference to the Bible verse, Mathew 25:31 – 40, he said: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me,” adding that, ‘children are the ones that need our support and attention in society’.

It was only when Christians adhered to these teachings in the Bible that they qualified as true and good servants of God, he said.

Fr Nellas gave the advice at the Church’s Sunday service when he celebrated Mass for the congregation.

“If we want to be great, then let’s be good servants of God. That will strengthen our faith and enables us to do what God wants from us,” he added.

The Resident Priest asked Christians to desist from paying deaf ears or not showing interest in listening to God’s word whenever it was proclaimed to enable them to see his glory.
