Accra,- The Reverend Solomon Kotey-Nikoi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Dadekotopon, will institute an award package to celebrate the best five Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) local candidates.
He said the Municipality had set up a Committee headed by Madam Habiba Kotomah, the Municipal Director of Education, to come out with the modalities for the award to encourage the candidates to give off their best.
“Where there is competition, people try to put in their best, the initiative is part of the Assembly’s strategies to encourage the students to give off their best for the examination,” he said.
Rev. Kotey-Nikoi gave the advice during a visit to some BECE centres in the Municipality, including Garrison Burma Camp School, La Wireless Basic School, South La, Emmaus Centre ‘A’ and ‘B’, Labone Senior High School and St Thomas Aquinas SHS.
The 2021 BECE starts on Monday, November 15, and ends on Friday, November 19, 2021, at all the designated examination centres throughout the country.
The MCE said the annual award package would encourage the subsequent year groups to learn hard and pass with distinction.
He expressed satisfaction after talking to the students, saying: “I saw on the faces of students that they are ready to give their all”.
Rev Kotey-Nikoi urged the candidates to be confident, allay any fears and read the instructions carefully before answering the questions, adding that, “understanding the questions forms part of the examinations”.
He was elated with the conduct of the candidates as well as that of the officials of the West African Examinations Council and the invigilators, for making all the needed logistics ready for the examinations.
Ms Rita Naa Adoley Sowah, the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, advised the candidates to eschew all forms of examination malpractices and obey the rules of the examination.
She advised the candidates to focus on what they had studied and never engage in any discussions with their colleagues in the examination hall to avoid sanctions.
Ms Sowah presented mathematical sets and liquid soap to the BECE candidates in the Municipality.
Madam Kotomah said the teachers had done enough to prepare the students for the examination and expected them to come out with better results.
Some of the students in an interview with GNA were confident of excelling in the examination.
The Municipality presented 3, 495 candidates for the 2021 BECE.
Meanwhile, a statement from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says 571,894 candidates comprising 287,605 males and 284,289 females are writing the BECE at 2,158 centres nationwide.
A total of 531,707 and 517,332 candidates sat for the examination in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
