Black Stars: Andre Ayew delighted with Al Sadd move ahead of 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Newly signed Al Sadd forward, Andre Ayew says he’s hoping Ghana book a qualification for the finals of the 2022 World Cup scheduled to be hosted in Qatar.

The 31-year-old, who is the captain for the Black Stars joined the Qatari giants on a two-year deal last month with an option to extend at the expiration of his Swansea City contract.

Speaking to the club website in an interview, Andre assessed the readiness of the Gulf country to host the world football showpiece after his first few weeks in the country.

According to him, it’s going to be a great tournament from preparations he has seen, and also the great infrastructure Qatar can boast of.

“From what I have seen, the preparations have been great. They’re top class,” the former West Ham forward reiterated.

“I think Qatar is more than ready for the World Cup. They have the stadiums, the training facilities and hotels. There is everything here for the World Cup to go perfectly.

“I know it’s going to be a great World Cup. I hope Ghana will be able to qualify and I will be able to play the World Cup at my home in Doha.”

Andre who has featured in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups for Ghana will be hoping to lead his country back into the tournament after missing out in the 2018 edition.

Ghana is drawn in Group G alongside South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe. The Black Stars will take on Ethiopia in their first qualifier on September 1, 2021, and play away to South Africa four days later.
