2021 Afcon: ‘Great player’ Philmon Baffour merit Black Stars call up – Alhaji Grusah sarcastically claims

King Faisal FC owner, Alhaji Grusah has described Dreams FC captain, Philemon Baffour as a great player who merits his call up to the Black Stars.

The 20-year-old is among the five local players named in Black Stars 30-man provisional squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Baffour’s call up has been heavily criticized by Ghanaians because he has constantly been named in the past call ups but he is yet to get a single minute under his belt.

However, Grusah in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM said the former Ghana U-20 right-back is a great player and thus merit his place in the senior national team.

“For Philemon Baffour, I have watched him severally, he’s a great player, and for Milo, nobody can influence him with selections. So I’m pretty sure he earned the call up based on merit and not because of the affiliation of Dreams FC to Kurt,” he said.

“For those complaining about him not getting selection during matchdays, is he the only player who sits on the bench? There are many players in a similar situation, he will get his opportunity one day,” he said.

Black Stars have officially opened camp today in Qatar for a 17-day training camp in preparation.

The team will play three friendly matches while in Qatar. The Ghana Football Association has already concluded talks with Algeria while engagements are ongoing for two additional matches.

Black Stars will depart Doha for Yaoundé on Friday, January 7, three days before their opening match against Morocco.

After Morocco, Rajevac’s side will take on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Gabon and then wrap up their group stage campaign against debutants Comoros.
