Techiman, (BE/R),-Mr Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Bono East Regional Minister, has given the assurance of absolute security in the region ahead of the Christmas festivities.
He said the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) had increased police visibility in the Techiman municipality and parts of the region to control crime and protect the citizenry.
“Security services are on the ground to maintain law and order as well as provide a peaceful environment before, during and after the Christmas”, the Regional Minister, also the Chairman of the REGSEC stated.
“These security agencies are fully prepared to clamp down on miscreants, who might intend to disturb the prevailing peace of the region,” Mr Adu-Gyan said at the end of year meeting of the RCC held in Techiman.
He advised residents to support the security agencies to gather intelligence about criminals and people with questionable characters, saying modern policing remained collective and shared responsibility of all.
Mr Adu-Gyan also called for a deepened police-civilian relationship in crime-fighting and asked residents to be wary of the activities of criminals and remain watchful.
He said chieftaincy disputes threatened societal peace and social cohesion and urged the Techiman Traditional Council to resort to dialogue and resolve chieftaincy disputes amicably.
He also reminded the populace to be mindful of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic and endeavour to adhere to health safety protocols to prevent the spread of the disease in the region.
Mr Adu-Gyan asked the populace to take the COVID-19 vaccine, saying that remained the surest way for them to protect themselves and the people around them from contracting the viral disease.
“We must constantly wash our hands with soap under running water, wear our nose masks, sanitize our hands regularly and observe social distancing at all public places and gatherings,” he advised.
Dr Paulina Appiah, the Bono East Director of Public Health, said the region had vaccinated 31 per cent of the targeted regional population.
She said a survey conducted in the region showed only 36.9 per cent of the people wear their nose masks appropriately, while 13.7 per cent of them wear them improperly with 49.4 per cent not wearing the masks at all.
Dr Appiah advised the people to disregard unfounded theories and myths surrounding the COVID-19 and the vaccination and entreated them to take the vaccine in their interest.
