Asantehene to open National Media Capacity Enhancement Programme

Kumasi,- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, is expected to perform the opening ceremony for the maiden National Media Capacity Enhancement Programme, which begins in Kumasi on Monday, January 10.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Manhyia Palace, after which the training programme will begin.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Information, and signed by Munira Karim, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the programme formed part of a collaborative effort by stakeholders in the media industry to support the sector.

It pointed out that the needs assessment, curriculum and faculty in relation to the programme were agreed upon by an independent working group of experts led by Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

“Faculty have been invited by the group from some of the nation’s leading communications schools and media houses,” the statement noted.

According to the Ministry, the programme had been designed to also provide scholarships for some 250 journalists to be trained annually, adding that the idea was to contribute to deepening media professionalism nationwide.
