Yendi, Ghana – Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, has called upon Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama to engage in clean and respectful political campaigns. The call was made during Vice President Bawumia’s visit to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi as part of his thank-you tour of the Northern Region. Ya-Na Abukari II emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful discourse, considering both Bawumia and Mahama as his sons and significant political figures in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Vice President Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the NPP, should ensure that his campaign team aligns with his ideals and the agreements previously established. In his response, Vice President Bawumia expressed gratitude to the Overlord of Dagbon for his blessings during the flagbearer contest of the NPP, which he won against 10 contestants. He emphasized that the upcoming 2024 campaign would focus on showcasing the developmental plans for the North and Ghana by both him and John Mahama.
Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Alhassan Shani Saibu noted the significance of Bawumia’s victory in the NPP flagbearer contest and the party’s strategy for the 2024 elections. The visit to Ya-Na was part of the NPP’s efforts to introduce their flagbearer to key regional figures, with plans to continue the tour to Damango to meet the Overlord of Damango. The Vice President’s visit also involved expressing thanks for the support and blessings received, as well as seeking further prayers for the upcoming election.
