Accra: The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that a disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System triggered widespread power supply interruptions across the country in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 3:11 a.m., leading to the simultaneous shutdown of some power generation plants on the national grid.
According to Ghana Web, the disturbance resulted in the simultaneous tripping of some generating plants across the national power system, causing an interruption of electricity supply. In response, GRIDCo activated its established system restoration procedures. Engineers and system operators are working continuously, in close collaboration with power sector stakeholders, to restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible.
GRIDCo has also initiated a comprehensive technical investigation to determine the precise cause of the system disturbance. The company assured the public of its commitment to restoring supply to all affected customers promptly while maintaining safety standards.
